About me

I'm an award-winning journalist with extensive experience and a commitment to excellence.

As an editor and reporter at The Times-Picayune and The Advocate newspapers, I lead a team covering K-12 schools and higher education in New Orleans and across Louisiana.

A former teacher, I've reported extensively on education. I covered the issue at the national, state, and local level for Chalkbeat. My writing has also appeared in The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Mother Jones, USA Today, and the Associated Press, among other publications.

After earning a master's degree from the City University of New York's Graduate School of Journalism, I began my journalism career as a New York City beat reporter for DNAinfo. Later, I was a Spencer Education Journalism Fellow at Columbia University.

My reporting has been awarded by the New York Press Club, the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists, and the Education Writers Association.

A Midwest native who lived in the Northeast for many years, I'm now based in New Orleans.
